Common Knowledge Of The Moomins
The patterns on the Moomin mugs base on the books, stories, comic strips and characters, that were created by Finnish female artist and writer Tove Jansson over 70 years ago. Later in the 1990s Moomin Cartoons were made in Japan respecting the original quiet humour and humanism.
The patterns of the mugs are designed and painted by another, younger Tove. This Tove Slotte-Elevant has said that it would be good for everybody to get a little dosage of Moomin philosophy every day. Slotte-Elevant has got that philosophy in her blood and in her hands: the patterns show us the Moomin Valleys characters and style of life so vividly - and respecting the original pictures and ideas of Tove Jansson.
The mugs are made of vitro porcelain and actually the model of the mugs or other dishes is from Arabia Finland´s Teema series. Measurements of the Arabia Moomin ceramic mugs:
Height 8 cm
Diameter 8 cm
Weight 0.3 kg
Volume 0.3 l
Usually the collectors divide the mugs into three cathegories:
- Base mugs: usually Moomin persons, and the mugs are made for many years.
- Season and special mugs are made only for a certain short time.
- Old or/and rare mugs are not made anymore. Commonly made before 2006.
These listed mugs are mostly base mugs. It is mentioned if a mug is something else than base. There are also my own serial numbers to identify mugs from each other.
